#BlogTour Redemption – Jack Jordan

Aaron Alexander has just been released from jail after serving eleven years for causing the death of Joshua Moore in a hit-and-run. Now a free man, all he wants to do is stay on the straight and narrow and leave his troubled past behind him.

But for Joshua’s mother Evelyn, eleven years in jail isn’t nearly enough. Consumed by grief and rage, she has been waiting for Aaron’s release, counting down the days until she can exact the revenge he deserves. And now that time has come.

But as Evelyn and her husband Tobias embark on a road trip to track Aaron down, they find themselves caught on two different sides of a gripping game of cat-and-mouse. Because Tobias knows what Evelyn is planning, and he will do anything to save her from herself.

Even if it means protecting the man who killed their son.

Locked in a collision course set in motion eleven years ago, Aaron, Evelyn and Tobias are about to find out whether the road they have chosen leads to redemption . . . or to retribution.

Jack Jordan certainly knows how to write a heart-racing thriller! Redemption is the story of Evelyn, Tobias and Aaron and it’s a twisted game of cat and mouse from the start. I cannot imagine the absolute horror of losing a child, particularly in the circumstances with which Joshua is killed. No parent should ever need to bury their child and I cannot fathom the grief and emptiness that exists in the aftermath. Tragically, Evelyn and Tobias live in this world, knowing their son is dead and the man who killed him has served his time and can now move on. However, during his jail time, Evelyn has been plotting and waiting, ready for his release so she can avenge her sons death. Her relationship with Tobias is barely hanging by even the thinnest strand despite Tobias’ best efforts. No matter what, he loves his wife and wants to save her from taking a step she can never come back from. Unfortunately he somewhat underestimates what Evelyn is capable of and there’s a tipping point, much the firing of a starters pistol and suddenly everything ramps up. The game has begun and nothing will be the same again.

I thought this was a highly entertaining read. One of those books where you start and your eyes are racing across each page and you suddenly find yourself trapped in your chosen reading spot because you can’t put it down. There are quite a few layers to this book within the chase. Evelyn is very focused on her goal but as she seeks to achieve this she finds herself doing things that perhaps she hadn’t anticipated, and these make her question herself somewhat. She won’t back down from her target but things aren’t quite as easy as they might have appeared. Tobias is an interesting character – I found him quite passive and wasn’t sure on his motivation for the path he chose at times. It such a hideous situation that I don’t really know how I would react, and hope to never find out. His devotion to saving Evelyn from herself is admirable and he puts himself in danger many times over. The predicament of saving the person who destroyed your life is complex and this moral dilemma makes for an excellent story.

This is a book that I think you’ll fly through. It’s pacy, tense and very difficult to tear your eyes from. There is a claustrophobic element in the hot and dry conditions and it engages all your senses as the story progresses. I love a story which makes you question how you might react and what choices you would make from the safety of a reading nook. Jack Jordan is definitely an author who challenges whilst entertaining. Loved it!
