#BlogTour A Sicilian Affair – Susan Lewis

A fresh start where no-one knows her name is exactly what Catie is looking for from her Sicilian escape.

When Catie meets handsome Giancarlo, she has stumbled across a love that could last forever… If only she can admit the truth about her past.

But the scars of betrayal from her broken marriage and fragile family are only part of the story.

Some secrets are too devastating to share…

I thoroughly loved A Sicilian Affair – I’ve never been to Sicily but my parents have been discussing visiting recently so this let me have a little sneaky trip from my house as I read. The story is told as a mix of the here and now, and key parts of Catie’s past. She is a talented singer and through singing she comes alive and makes the room sparkle. Music opens doors for her and brings important people into her life, setting the scene for the story. She makes an impulsive decision to travel to Sicily but we don’t quite know why – but all becomes clear over the course of the book. At first I couldn’t quite see how the two worked together but it quickly started making sense and was a lovely way to bring Catie’s story alive.

There is so much texture and richness in this story – there were two points that broke my heart and many others that brought me joy. I was not expecting one major plot point and audibly gasped when it arose. Catie is a very interesting character and one that I was rooting for right from the off. She was a joy to read about and I thought she handled herself incredibly well when faced with devastation and difficulties, I’m not sure I would have been able to remain composed! Of course she does have her moments and anyone pushed hard enough and often enough will be tested, and you’ll have to decide for yourself what you think of what happened next! I want to talk about some of the storylines but to do so will properly ruin it for those yet to read – perhaps a little thread on booktwitter later to keep this bit largely spoiler free?

I’ve been fortunate to have been on quite a few of Susan’s blog tours and I remain in awe of her ability to maintain such a high standard of writing whilst bringing so many different characters to live on the pages. If this is your first of her books then you are in for a treat with so many in the back catalogue to pick from!
